Another Fine Win For Sacred Heart Girls.

Sacred Heart College U. 16 girls continued their winning ways when they produced a strong second half display against Loreto Milford at Castlederg to garner another victory in the Under 16 B Kukri sponsored Ulster Schools competition.
The Tyrone school played with the aid of a strong breeze in the first half but with both sides very evenly matched they only led by two at the break. The half time score was 1-4 to 1-2 with Sacred Heart’s first half scores coming from Niamh Mc Donagh, Nicole Murphy, Louise Sloan (2) from open play and a well taken goal from Dearbhla Mc Donald. Clodagh Mc Cartan in the Sacred Heart goals was in outstanding form for her side pulling off several superb saves in a very entertaining opening half of football. In spite of heavy pressure at times the Omagh girls defended stoutly with Sarah O’ Brien and Sharon-Cait Mulryan digging deep to deny the Milford forwards time and space on the ball.
With wind advantage in the second period the Donegal College raised the tempo and turned the game on its head with two early goals. As the pressure increased Sacred Heart were forced to battle hard with Clodagh Mc Ginn, Sophie Ramsey and goal scoring wing back Noleen Carlin doing valiant work to keep the Milford girls at bay. Some fine long range points from play put Milford Loreto in a very strong position before Aine Mc Grath, playing on her home pitch, took 2 fine goals after storming runs from deep in her own half.
Referee Brian Mc Callion awarded a free for a tackle on the hard working Evie Johnston which was converted by Shauna Brown and that score really brought Sacred Heart back into the game. Milford however hit back with another goal leaving just one point between the teams and all to play for. The Donegal girls pushed for the win and it took some excellent defending by corner back Eimear Connolly as she got a hand to a shot to prevent a possible goal scoring chance. Having weathered the second half storm it was the Omagh College that finished strongest when Erin Gallagher split the posts from 30 metres out to leave the final score Sacred Heart College 4-6, Loreto Milford 3-7.
