A Good Day’s Work For Moortown And The Clarkes!
Sunday 06.11.2011

It turned out to be a disappointing day for Gortin and Brocagh as they both came up short in their respective league playoffs. Gortin will wonder just what went wrong having been ahead by five points at the break but they failed to score for the remainder of the game with the result meaning another season in Division Two. Moortown called on all their experience and guile to produce a superb second half display which saw them secure their senior status for 2012. Daniel Quinn’s goal in the third minute of the second half was just the start the St Malachy’s needed and the confidence they received from that score played a key role in their second half revival.
Meanwhile in the Division Three playoff final Brocagh were well beaten by a high scoring and very well organised Dungannon Clarkes for whom former county star Ger Cavlan was in inspired form. The elegant Cavlan landed seven points for his side but was central to all their best play as he pulled the strings in a really good team performance. The old saying about the cream rising to the top was certainly true in this case as the All Ireland winner rolled back the years to produce one of the finest individual displays in a Clarkes Jersey for a long time. Dungannon will be hoping Cavlan can continue to inspire their side for one last push as they take on Strabane in the final game of the season with a place in Intermediate football the prize on offer for the winners.
