Tyrone won their 12th Ulster U21 title and their first since 2006 when they won a pulsating encounter against Donegal at Celtic Park in Derry on Wednesday evening. Given their recent record against their neighbours this was more than just a title and on the night it was a richly deserved triumph for Feargal Logan’s charges.

Danny McNulty and Hugh McFadden traded early points before Conor Meyler got in for a clinically taken 9th minute goal. McFadden, Eoin McHugh and Darach O’Connor exchanged points with Lee Brennan, Cathal McShane and McNulty as Tyrone led 1-6 to 0-6 at the break.

Willie Gillespie and McFadden twice closed the gap on the restart but each time Tyrone responded through Brennan and McNulty. Going into the final quarter three points still separated the two sides with Ruairi McGlone Tyrone’s latest marksman.  as the game entered the closing ten minutes Donegal seemed to have the momentum and efforts from Eamonn McGrath, O’Connor and Stephen McBrearty had them level. Tyrone though showed the character, composure and will to win that is required and when McShane won a late free McNulty calmly slotted it over for a 1-11 to 0-13 victory. Tyrone now play Roscommon in the All Ireland semi final on Saturday week.
