Tyrone over 35 handball title for Martin Toner…

Tyrone handball secretary Martin Toner emerged victorious from the inaugural county over 35 singles championship at the weekend following some very close battles in Beragh and Loughmacrory on Saturday and Sunday.
The two semi-finals in Loughmacrory on Sunday were both keenly contested, with Martin Toner losing his opener, 21-9, to an impressive Seamus McCrory before producing a superb comeback to take the second game impressively on a 21-2 scoreline.
The tiebreaker was point for point in the early stages before the Loughmacrory man broke away at five points each and emerged with six points to spare, 11-5.
Eamon McCrory was in fine form in the second semi-final but had to withstand a persistent challenge from Finbarr Fullen before clinching his place in the final with a 21-18, 21-17 success.
The decider was yet another close affair as Eamon won the opening game impressively, 21-9, only to be pegged back in the second game as Martin staged another big comeback to send the match to a tiebreaker with a 21-18 win.
The Loughmacrory man then found a bit extra to emerge victorious on a scoreline of 11-1, delivering some fine kill shots to ensure victory.
Next weekend will see the mens open singles and mens b singles championships completed and there will be some high quality action guaranteed in both competitions, while the county juvenile doubles finals will take place on Sunday in Beragh.
