With a lot of focus on the recent success of the Carrickmore handball fraternity and young Caolan Daly in particular, there is a possibility we could well overlook the achievements of their neighbours in Brackey. Nine of the Beragh youngsters will be joining Daly and his international colleague as they make the trip stateside to compete in the US Championships being held in San Diego later in the month. The Beragh lads will be competing at under 13, under 15 and under 17 level. As any GAA fan well knows such an undertaking requires serious planning and major fund raising.

As part of this fund raising and as a way of recognising the contribution of generations  past the handball fraternity of Beragh held a twenty four hour handball marathon starting at 9:00pm on Friday night past which ran until 9:00pm on Saturday night. In addition to the large crowds who showed up to support the venture several past masters were encouraged to take to the alley once again and demonstrate the finer points of the game. The organisers were delighted with the response they received and although there were many tired bodies around the parish late on Saturday night all involved agreed the whole venture had been a huge success.

For the record the young children from Breacach travelling to San Diego are  u17 Conor Mc Elduff   u15  girls Maeve Mc Elduff u15 boys Pol Clarke Gabhain Mc Crystall Johnny Woods Matthew Mc Sorley u13 Sean Kerr Jack Campbell and Aaron Owens.
