Owen Roes produced a shock in the opening round of the Hunky Dorys Junior championship at Healy Park on Friday night when they defeated high flying Clogher by the minimum margin on a 1-8 to 0-10 score line. The crucial score of the contest arrived eight minutes from time when midfielder Charles O’Doherty fired in the only goal of the game. That also proved to be Owen Roes’ last score of the game but they withstood late Clogher pressure that yielded points from Paddy McKernan and Ciaran Shields. County minor Cathal McShane was in impressive form for the winners contributing three points with Seamus Dooher and team captain Brendan Boggs also on target. Mark Bogue top scored for the Eire Ogs with three points with Emmett McConnell, Shields and McKernan getting a brace each.
