LIDL League
Donegal 1-12 Tyrone 3-11

Tyrone ladies powered to a fourth league win and remain unbeaten in Division 2 as they accounted for Donegal at MacCumhaill Park on Sunday afternoon.  They had five points to spare in the end with all but 1-2 of the Red Hand tally coming from play.

Zoe Loughran and Maria Canavan hit 1-3 each while Chloe Mc Caffrey accounted for 1-1.  The St Macartan’s player had to receive hospital checks for what looked like a serious ankle injury in the first half.  The full back line of Joanne Barrett, Jayne Lyons and Clara Daly were on top form while the link play through the half backs Caitlin Campbell, Emma Mulgrew and Meabh Corrigan and at midfield opened the Donegal defence throughout what was a hugely entertaining and open game of football.

Tyrone led by six points at the break.  Zoe Loughran rattling in a point within seconds of the start.  Donegal responded with points from Shannon Mc Laughlin, Susie White and Jodie Mc Fadden. Tyrone’s first goal came as Emma Conroy steered over a Girvan pass and Loughran was on hand to push in the rebound of her saved shot to the net.

Mc Caffrey drilled over from long range and Aoife Horisk saw her shot well saved by Claire Friel before Niamh Mc Laughlin turned in a partially saved White shot to level things twelve minutes in. Tyrone settled better after the goal with Loughran and the impressive team captain Aoibhinn Mc Hugh hitting a brace apiece to put their side four ahead.

White directed a free over and pointed from play a minute later before Tyrone pressed home their advantage. Canavan scored a free which was Tyrone’s first from the dead ball before Horisk sent Mc Caffrey through for a cracking goal. Sadly it was to be her last contribution as after clearing a ball at the back she was carried off. An exchange of points from Canavan and White left six between the sides at the break.

The third quarter was a slow burner.  Conroy saw her goal bound effort cleared off the line and Mc Fadden pulled a point back before Aine Strain and Conroy combined only for a goal to be ruled out. Donegal spun back to life as White and Katie Dowds left a score between the sides going into the last quarter.

Points from Canavan and Conroy steadied the ship for Tyrone again. Horisk was yellow carded though with five minutes of normal time left but the visitors eased themselves to three massive points in the closing minutes when Canavan drilled home a penalty.  Conroy had sent Loughran in, goalkeeper Friel committed herself and took out the Killeeshil player.

Friel was yellow carded and although Mc Fadden and White tagged on late points it was a massive win for Tyrone against their Ulster senior neighbours.
