Loughmacrory Stars Lucy and Laura Earn Places on Team Ireland for World Championships

There was great pride in Loughmacrory last weekend as two of the club’s rising stars, Lucy McCullagh and Laura Duff, secured their places on Team Ireland for the upcoming World Championships following outstanding performances in their respective categories.

Both players displayed exceptional skill, composure, and determination throughout the competition, producing performances worthy of the international stage.

Lucy McCullagh was in tremendous form in the 17 & Under category. In one of the matches of the day, she overcame Galway’s Freya Donnelly in a dramatic tie-breaker to book her place in the final against Clíona McGinley.

In the decider, Lucy produced a composed and clinical display, executing her shots brilliantly and dominating proceedings from start to finish. Winning in two straight games, she successfully secured her place as Ireland’s representative for the second consecutive year — a remarkable achievement and a testament to her dedication and talent.

Equally impressive was Laura Duff in the 19 & Under category. Laura delivered a commanding semi-final performance to defeat Clare’s Leah Minogue and progress to the final, where she faced Katie Jordan.

Showing confidence, determination, and excellent shot execution throughout the day, Laura rose to the occasion superbly. She played with real authority in the final, fearlessly taking on her shots and maintaining her high standard of play to deservedly earn her place on Team Ireland for the World Championships.

There was also a strong showing from Seán Kerr, who battled hard but was narrowly defeated in the final by the highly talented Fiachra Ó Dúill.

It was a hugely successful day overall for Loughmacrory, with Lucy and Laura’s achievements marking a proud moment for the club and community as they now prepare to represent Ireland on the world stage.
