End of the Short Kickout?

Could the short kickout about to become a thing of the past?  Reports suggest the GAA rules committee are in the process of considering measures that will prevent short sideways kickouts that are now so prevalent in the game today.  The proposals seem to have come to light following the introduction of ‘the mark’ whereby many sides have opted to kick the ball short to avoid the possible mark being called in the middle third of the field.  If the new rule came to pass the goalkeeper would be forced to kick the ball over the 45 metre line from every kickout.  An adaption to this rule might also be considered whereby we return to wides being kicked out from the edge of the small parallelogram and score kicked out from the 20 metre line.
