With their new season just around the corner Tyrone Under 20s have stepped up their preparations as they seek to defend their Ulster title. With that in mind they have announced Antoin Fox as team captain for this year with Coalisland ace Tiarnán Quinn named as vice captain. Paul Devlin’s side take on Antrim this Saturday at Healy Park  in the Leo Murphy Cup as preparations step up ahead of their Ulster championship defence next month.

Their 2019 campaign proved very productive at provincial level but the Red Hands came up short when they lost narrowly to Cork in the All Ireland semi final before the Rebels went on to defeat Dublin in the final.

Tyrone will look back on that semi final performance with considerable regret and questions about what might have been. Undoubtedly one of the key areas for debate would focus on the loss of centre back Antoin Fox so early in the game and the affect that had on the team’s display. The Loughmacrory youngster suffered a serious ankle ligament injury right at the start of the semi final and his absence on the day had a significant impact on the outcome of the game. Tyrone certainly missed his physical presence, his football skill and his leadership on the pitch.

Now that he is injury free Antoin will be looking forward to leading his team in their defence of their Ulster title.
