7th MacRory Cup Title For St Michael’s

St Michael’s Enniskillen 0-16 Omagh CBS 2-6

Omagh’s bid to win the Danske Bank MacRory Cup ended in disappointment at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh on Monday afternoon when they were beaten by a superb St.Michael’s Enniskillen side.

Only four points divided the sides at the final whistle but that scoreline flattered an Omagh side who struggled throughout to deal with the pace and intensity that their opponents brought to the table. Dominic Corrigan’s charges led by eight points at half time and even though Omagh cut that gap to two in the third quarter they could never get back on level terms.

Man of the match Darragh McBrien kicked five first half points with his half forward teammate Michael McGlynn weighing in with four as well. Simon Garrity, Mark Hayes and Daniel Fullerton were the marksmen for Omagh in the first half as Enniskillen established a 0-11 to 0-3 advantage. Things could have been worse for Omagh had Glynn not put a 13^th minute penalty over the bar when he slipped as he made contact with the ball.

Omagh CBS were a transformed side on the restart and they narrowed the gap with points from substitute Sean McDonagh and corner back Cormac McBride before Daniel Fullerton converted a 43^rd minute penalty after Enniskillen keeper Sean McNally was penalised for a foot block.

McDonagh then scored again as Omagh CBS made it 1-3 without reply but that was as good as it got for them. Substitute Garvan Quigley, man of the match McBrien (2) and Conor Love all registered as the winners pulled clear again. With five minutes to go McDonagh finished in style to the bottom right hand corner of the net but St.Michael’s weren’t to be denied with McBrien converting a late free for the insurance point.
