With only a couple of days left until Tyrone’s third round qualifier clash with Kildare team manager Mickey Harte will be expecting a serious test of his team’s credentials. Tyrone and Kildare have already met on two occasions this year with the Red Hands coming out on top in both games. However the Glencull man will be mindful of what a wounded Kildare team is capable of following their comprehensive defeat of Tyrone in last year’s division two league final.

This game has much more than just a place in the fourth round riding on it. Reputations can be enhanced or left in tatters on the outcome of such a game and this clash is sure to be tasty and feisty. Kildare were a huge disappointment in their Leinster semi final defeat to Dublin and have been far from free flowing since.

Ciaran Mc Geeney is under a certain degree of pressure and will be keen to show that his team still has what it takes to mix it with the top teams in the country. He has begun to bring some younger players from the under twenty one side through and will be hopeful of using this game to restore his team’s confidence and his own reputation. Tyrone can expect to see a fired up home side intent on using their greater physicality and athleticism to their advantage. However the game will ultimately be won by the team that manages to get the best return from their share of the scoring chances and in that respect Tyrone, with Stevie O’Neill, Sean Cavanagh and Darren Mc Curry on form should just about edge it.
