St.Patricks Academy Dungannon 0-13 Our Lady’s Castleblaney 2-5
St.Patricks Academy Dungannon are Oisin McGrath champions for 2023 after edging past a gallant Our Lady’s Castleblaney at Garvaghey on Friday afternoon. The heavy rain left difficult underfoot conditions for both sides but both teams deserve credit for serving up a thrilling encounter.
The Academy led 0-5 to 0-2 at the break with accurate full forward Liam McGeary converting three frees as well as a point from play with a placed ball from Joel Kerr their other marksman. Lorcan Mone and Senan Hanratty were the scorers for a Castleblayney side who had keeper Cathal Malone to thank for a superb save to deny Aaron Convie a goal.
A brilliant brace from wing half back Kerr stretched the Academy’s advantage on the restart and while Tristan Nugent responded at the other end of the field with an equally fine score a point from Lorcan McMurray left it 0-9 to 0-3 going into the final quarter.
Malone saved his side again when he thwarted Convie for a second time before a goal from Mone left it came on. Half backs Harry McQuillan and Pauric Carville both hit points to close the gap to two but McGeary then took his personal haul to 0-8. With time running out Dylan Watters grabbed a second major for the Monaghan lads but it was Dungannon’s day with Darragh Devlin rounding the scoring off with a neat point.
Dungannon scorers: L McGeary 0-8 (5F), J Kerr 0-3 (1F), D Devlin 0-1, L McMurray 0-1
Castleblayney scorers: L Mone 1-1, D Watters 1-0, P Carville 0-1, T Nugent 0-1, S Hanratty 0-1 (F), H McQuillan 0-1
