St Patrick’s Academy Dungannon will contest the 2015 Ulster Colleges MacRory Cup final after a hugely impressive win over St Paul’s Bessbrook. The foundation for this victory was put down in the opening thirty minutes.

Dungannon played with a stiff breeze at their backs during that period and the Academy made full use of it going in to the interval with an eleven point lead 3-8 to 1-3. Dungannon might well have had five goals in the first half.

The opening goal of the game came from Daniel Kerr with just thirty-three seconds gone. St Paul’s fired in a goal of their own to equalise in the 8th minute before Fintan McClure was fouled for a penalty. That was converted by Cormac O’Hagan.

Liam Rafferty and Kerr tagged on points and the excellent Ryan Coleman landed a long range point from distance. Coleman who finished the game with 1-3 was on the scoreboard next with a goal after a superb move involving four Academy players. Further frees from O’Hagan finished the first half scoring.

While the scoring rate dropped for Dungannon after the break the defence was always on top. Ciaran Higgins, Stephen Corr and Michael McKernan were all in excellent form as they eased into the St Patrick’s Day final.
