St.Patrick’s Academy Dungannon produced a brilliant performance to beat a fancied St.Pats Maghera side in the quarter final of the Corn na Og competition at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown on Thursday afternoon. The Derry lads had the wind in the first half but they only led 1-7 to 1-6 at the break with Enda McGarrity getting the Dungannon goal and Ross Lavery and Eoin Teague among the points. Maghera scored a goal with the first attack of the second half but the Academy responded straight away with Aidan Woods finding the net. Corin Kelly and McGarrity tagged on points before the winners really turned on the style.  Substitute Aidan Gavin scored a brace of goals with Teague, Lavery and Fintan McClure also adding points while captain McGarrity scored another superb goal. Ciaran Barker, Liam Linden, Darragh McCann and Paddy Sheehy all played well in defence, Corin Kelly and Cormac O’Hagan worked hard in midfield while McClure, Lavery, Teague and McGarrity caused the Maghera defence untold problems. This was sweet revenge for Dungannon who were well beaten in the quarter final of the Dalton Cup by Maghera twelve months ago and the winning score line of 5-13 to 2-9 demonstrates how well they played. Omagh CBS will hope to make it an all Tyrone semi final when they take on St.Michaels Enniskillen tomorrow afternoon at two o’clock in Dromore.
