St.Patricks Academy Dungannon are through to the Danske Bank MacRory Cup semi-finals after beating holders St.Pats Cavan at Corduff on Saturday afternoon in a contest that required extra time to decide.

As expected there was little between the two sides and after Dungannon had gone into an early 0-4 to 0-2 lead thanks to points from Ryan Coleman, Cormac O’Hagan and wing back Tiarnan Teague the holders struck for a Thomas Edward Donohue goal.

It was 1-4 to 0-7 at half time and the Academy had the opening two scores of the second period through O’Hagan and Daniel Kerr. The Tyrone lads then went down to fourteen men before Donohue and Coleman exchanged points. Cavan then had a man sent off as well as the holders hit back to draw level with an inspirational point from defender Patrick O’Reilly. By that stage the Academy were down to thirteen men and when Donohoe converted a close in free it looked like being the winner. Dungannon though didn’t panic and a Coleman free sent the game into extra time, 1-8 to 0-11.

Both sides visibly tired in extra time and after a scoreless opening period a well struck O’Hagan free from out on the right wing proved to be the winning score as Dungannon gained some measure of revenge for last season’s final defeat.
