St.Patrick’s Academy Dungannon 1-10 Our Lady’s Castleblayney 0-12
St.Patrick’s Academy Dungannon left it late at Stewartstown on Thursday evening as they secured the last semi final spot in this season’s MacRory Cup when edging past Our Lady’s Castleblaney in a thriller. Having led by seven points in the early stages of the game they trailed by three with time running out. A Liam McGeary goal in the 58th minute was their first score of the second half before midfielder James Mulgrew proved to be the hero with the winning point in injury time.
Dungannon were slick in the opening moments of the contest as they confidently took the game to their opponents. Full forward Eoin Long weighed in with a trio of points with Darragh Devlin, Mulgrew and Aodhan Quinn also raising white flags while the latter also scored a brilliant two pointer. Points from Sean Murtagh and James Ennis closed the gap and while Charlie Maguire replied for the Academy efforts from Pauric Carville and Evan Treanor closed the gap to 0-9 to 0-6 at the break.
The second half proved to be a different story as the Monaghan lads turned the screw. Substitute Alex McGinnity got a couple with Tristian Nugent then levelling matters. Castleblaney were on top but they missed three or four chancres before a two pointer from Murtagh and another single from McGinnity edged them three clear and close to victory. Dungannon though didn’t give up with Devlin winning a crucial turnover as Castleblaney came out of defence and that led to substitute Lorcan McMurray setting up McGeary for a palmed goal. There was still drama to come however as Mulgrew weighed in with a priceless winnr to set up a last four clash with Abbey Vocational School Donegal.
