St.Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon 1-12 Abbey CBS 0-11
A goal from Michael Lynn in the opening moments of the second half ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides as St.Patrick’s Academy Dungannon booked their place in the MacRory Cup semi finals at the second time of asking at Inniskeen on Thursday night.

It was Abbey CBS who led by the minimum margin at the break but in terms of possession they will feel that they should have been further in front with Ryan Treanor a constant thorn in the Dungannon defence.

It was the Tyrone school though who almost enjoyed a dream start after only thirty seconds but Abbey CBS keeper Aidan Morgan saved well with his foot to deny Conn Kilpatrick. Treanor opened the scoring in the third minute from a “45” before the same player doubled their advantage from play.

Che O’Donnell opened Dungannon’s account with a well taken point and by the end of the opening quarter they were level with Tiarnan Donnelly knocking over a forty metre free. Treanor and Ryan Coleman then exchanged points before Treanor and Sean Cooper edged the Newry lads two in front.

Abbey were finding a lot of space up front but they weren’t capitalising on it as they hit five first half wides. Donnelly and Treanor traded points from frees before the latter had the final say of the half from a placed ball to leave it 0-6 to 0-5 at the break.

Forty five seconds into the second half a surging run from midfielder Ruairi McGlone paved the way for Lynn’s goal, the team captain giving keeper Aidan Morgan no chance with an explosive finish.

McGlone then tagged on a point but with Treanor in superb form the Newry lads stayed in touch. Lynn and Treanor exchanged points before the former put four between the sides with a dozen minutes left from an acute angle on the wing.

Wing back Cormac McCartan hit an inspirational point for Abbey but Dungannon weren’t to be denied with substitute Stephen McGrath and Lynn on target to give them a deserved victory.
