The Division Three game between Brackaville and Glenelly ended in a hard fought but somewhat controversial draw on Sunday. The North Tyrone side seemed set for victory as they reached the break 0-8 to 0-2 ahead. Seamus Harkin scored five first half points while Barry and Eamon Mc Connell and Michael Nicholas each bagged a point. The second half saw a huge improvement from Brackaville as they restricted Glenelly to a single second half score, a goal from Seamus Harkin. Joe Rafferty, Sean Corr, Ciaran Gervin and Ryan Mc Elhatton were among the points for the Owen Roes while Che O’Donnell bagged the all important goal. However with time running out the referee disallowed a last minute goal for Brackaville to ensure that both sides took something from the game.
Beragh Red Knights rounded off a great weekend for the club with a very comfortable 3-17 to 0-7 win over a disappointing Clan na nGael side on Sunday afternoon. With Martin Rogers in good scoring form and Peter Meenagh finding the net just before the break Beragh reached half time 1-8 to 0-4 in front. Things did not get any better for Clan na nGael after the break in spite of Beragh playing most of the second half with fourteen men. Second half goals from Ryan O’Keefe and Niall Owens and points from Niall Owens, Martin Rogers, Ben Mc Sorley, Chrissy Devlin and Eddie Molloy ensured there would be no comeback for the North Tyrone side.
A plethora of missed chances ultimately cost Owen Roes a valuable pair of ACL points in this Division 3 game on Sunday. The O’Neills had much of the ball in the second half but time and time again turned that possession into wides. At the other end Tattyreagh’s Johnny Harkin registered 0-7 over the hour, a big enabler in their win.
Despite an early Cathal McShane free the home side started well and they ran into a quickfire 0-3 to 0-1 lead. A well taken McShane score got one back but Harkin’s third of the game quickly cancelled that out.
The visitors then squandered the ball in a dangerous section of the field on 11 minutes allowing the Tatts in for their only goal of the day. The hosts added a white flag, before in the 19th minute a good ball from Stephen Harper allowed McShane to place low to the net to get his side within touch again. Deep in added time Brendan Boggs scored a free to leave Owen Roes 1-5 to 1-3 adrift at the turn.
It was a more determined Owen Roes side that came out from the huddle in the second half, and they quickly took the lead. Sub Ryan Devine drove in from the sideline and when the ball broke loose Seamus Dooher slammed it to the goal.
Aidan McCrossan registered a long range free to supplement the goal a few minutes later.
However Tattyreagh bounced back, and their shooting efficiency saw them clock up four scores in a row, although that last score was interrupted by a red card for one of their side.
Back came the Leckpatrick side, and a great move involving Devine, Harper, and a well timed Michael Dooher release saw Ryan McAleer completed a well hit shot to the net to nudge his side ahead again.
The momentum should have been all with the away side but two Harkin frees put Tattyreagh ahead again, and a score from play gave them a buffer. Brendan Boggs pinged a late free but it was not to be enough, as his side were to rue those missed scoring chances and end the game with nothing to show for their efforts.
Owen Roes: Ryan McShane, Kevin O’Neill, Stephen Kelly, Michael Dooher, Sean Dooher, Conor O’Neill, Gerard Devine, Seamus Dooher (1-0), Cathal McShane (1-2), Ryan McAleer (1-0), Stephen Harper, Ricki Devine, Aidan McCrossan (0-1), Brendan Boggs (0-2), Charles O’Doherty.
