Aghaloo Hold On To Beat Beragh
Sunday 21.09.2025
Aghaloo 0-20 1-14 Beragh
A whirlwind start from Aghaloo, which saw them lead Beragh 9-1 by the 12th minute, went a long way to sending Aghaloo into the last four of the Connollys of Moy Intermediate Championship. They did have to withstand a second half Beragh comeback, which included a 60th minute Conor Owens goal to set up a nail biting finish, but Aghaloo held on for a deserved victory.
Conor Mullen and Niall McElroy had points on the board within the opening ninety seconds. Marty Rodgers got Beragh off and running with a free but Aghaloo took control and an exceptional free from McElroy near the sideline raised an orange flag. A further two point free and point from Go Man of the match McElroy pushed the lead to eight.
Oisin Donnelly stemmed the flow but a huge two pointer from play from Jody McGlone saw the advantage reach ten. Two late Conor Owens points saw the scoreboard display 12-4, at the break.
Beragh had staged a memorable comeback in the opening round but it was Jody McGlone and Niall McElroy on target in the early stages of the second half. Two pointers from Sean McCann and Marty Rodgers reduced the gap to six as the game entered its final quarter.
A Stewart Douglas point maintained the six point lead with seven minutes remaining but points from Oisin Donnelly and Paddy McCann gave Beragh hope. Mark McCormick and McElroy frees seemed to confirm the victory.
Beragh were now launching high balls goalwards and in the 60th minute Paddy McCann’s delivery fell to Conor Owens to punch home. That’s how it ended as Aghaloo held on.
