Anyone who was privileged to be at Eskra on Friday evening saw all that is good about Gaelic football as Aghaloo won a pulsating grade three minor championship final against Loughmacrory.  Aghaloo led early on thanks to a Niall McElroy goal before Loughmacrory hit back.

Cathaoir Gallagher scored two goals, the second of which came from the penalty spot, having earlier put a spot kick over the bar. Gallagher, Cormac Harte and Aidan Donaghy tagged on points as they moved eight ahead. On the stroke of halftime McElroy got his second major but it was Loughmacrory who led 2-8 to 2-3 at the interval.

McElroy and Colm Logue swapped points on the restart as did Gallagher and Oisin Gildernew. McElroy then struck for two goals inside three minutes to bring the sides level. Wing half back Daniel McCrudden then found the net to put the winners in front and when McElroy added two points Aghaloo were six in front.

Loughmacrory though weren’t finished yet and despite going down to fourteen men they fought back. Conal Grimes bagged a goal before Gallagher levelled the game when completing his hat trick.  Matthew McNamee and McElroy scored to put Aghaloo two in front  but back came Loughmacrory through Aidan Donaghy and Grimes to level matters again. Midfielder Jody McGlone popped up with the winning score as it finished 5-11 to 4-13. McElroy finished with 4-6 to his name while Gallagher hit 3-6!
