Aghaloo 2-11 Castlederg 0-9

Following the disappointment of losing out in the championship final Aghaloo bounced back at home to Castlederg in the promotion playoffs on Saturday afternoon with a comfortable win in the end to set up a meeting next weekend with Glenelly.

It was a game that the home side always looked in control off although it wasn’t until the closing ten minutes that they scored both of their goals to make sure of the result. Aghaloo were out of the traps quickly with six points in the opening dozen minutes from Gerard Daly, Niall McElroy, Tiarnan Donnelly (2), Garry McGinn and Ruairi McGlone. They then had McGlone straight red carded and Castlederg hit back to close the gap to 0-8 to 0-4 at the break thanks to a brace from wing half back Blaine Lynch as well as efforts from Daire Corry and Paddy Lynch.

Corry and Stewart Douglas exchanged points on the restart before Adam Traynor and Padraig Keyes closed the gap to two in the final quarter. It was still very much up for grabs at this stage but in the 51st minute McElroy finished low to the bottom right hand corner of the net in style to give his side breathing space. Traynor and Donnelly exchanged points before McElroy put the icing on the cake late on when he made no mistake from the penalty spot for his second goal of the game. Castlederg had defender Conor Ramsey straight red carded in injury time.
