These teams met a number of weeks ago in a match dominated and won easily by Aghyaran. It was a totally different situation this tine around as Cookstown brought a real championship intensity to their game.

Aoibhinn Devlin added a third point for Fr Rocks before Aghyaran hit their second and third points of the game through Aimee Coyle. Fr Rocks  registered their fourth point of the game courtesy of Laura McGillion before Aimee Coyle once again tied the score.

Just before the break good tackling by Aghyaran forced a turnover and after some superb play Sasha Byrne buried the ball in the back of the net to give Aghyaran a huge lift heading for half time.the ball in the net which was a great boost for the Aghyaran leading 1-4 to 0-4.

The second half saw Aghyaran win possession straight from the throw in and drive forward resulting in an Aoife Byrne point. Sarah McNeill replied for Cookstown but another Aimee Coyle score edged Aghyaran further in front.

A kick out from Aghyaran’s keeper Katie Byrne was intercepted by the speedy Mairead Mullan who placed the ball in the net. This gave Fr Rocks a huge lift and they hit the net again two minutes later with Aoibhinn Devlin hitting the net this time.

That score put Fr Rocks four ahead. Sasha Byrne and Anna Loughran swapped scores for their respective teams before Aghyaran enjoyed a purple patch. They added points from Sasha & Aiobhain McHugh before Tara McHugh found the net in the fifty third minute to put Aghyaran in the driving seat. Gemma Begley was in outstanding form for Carrickmore in their Intermediate preliminary game with Dromore on Thursday night. The former Tyrone ace hit 1-7 for her side from a total of 3-18 but it was her contribution in open play that was most impressive.

Carrickmore raced into a 3-10 to 0-2 first half lead with goals from Begley and Clare Mc Gurk (2). Defensively Roisin Devlin and Aimee Fox were in fine form while Megan Mc Cann and Begley were hugely impressive in the forward line.

Grainne Mc Rory battled hard for Dromore in the middle of the Park but the Naomh Davogs found Carrickmore a bit too hot to handle overall. The pace of the game slackened somewhat after the break as Carrickmore controlled possession and prevented Dromore from establishing any sort of foothold or gaining momentum.
