Aghyaran Ladies lose in Ulster decider:

Shane O Neills (Armagh )3-15, Aghyaran (Tyrone) 0-13.

The final score line was not a true reflection on the possession the Tyrone girls enjoyed in the game especially in the first half. They may look back with regret on several missed chances including an early missed penalty.
However with points from Nichola Mc Menamin (2) Roisin Mc Menamin, Lucy Mc Menamin and Aimee Coyle the Tyrone champions established an early three point lead. Shane O Neills star forward sixteen year old Aimee Mackin kicked four from frees while a point from Aiobheann Jones kept the Armagh girls in touch.
The old saying that goals win games was particularly true in this game with O Neills getting their first in the 23rd minute when midfielder Moya Feehan ran through to fire to the net.
Aghyaran responded with points from Shannon Skelton and Aimee Coyle to close the
gap to the minimum before the St Davogs were dealt a severe blow when their
influential centre half back Kellie Meehan was controversially sent to
the sin bin. At the break the score was O Neills 1-5 Aghyaran 0-7.
There was little between the teams certainly in terms of possession but Aghyaran were forced to work overtime now with only fourteen players. Some heroic defending from Bronah Mc Hugh, Phenah O Neill & Stacy Dolan aided by several fine saves by Cathy Gallen in the Aghyaran goals helped keep the Tyrone girls in the game.
Tara Byrne eventually found the net for O’Neills but Aghyaran continued to press and landed three nice points through Lucy Meehan and Aimee Coyle (2).
Unfortunately for the St Davogs Aoibheann Jones broke through to hit O Neills third goal which effectively ended the Tyrone girls challenge. They did manage two further points from captain Nichola Mc Menamin but the magnificent Aimee Macken sent over five points in a row to cap a wonderful personal display.
Final score Shane O Neills 3-15 Aghyaran 0-13.

Aghyaran girls should not be disappointed after what has been a great season for the team. They have played fifteen games winning 13 while losing only two.
The management of Tommy Moss and Chris Mc Grath can be rightly proud of their achievements and the girls have done them, the club and the parish proud on their fine championship run.
