Well the wait was certainly worth it as the All County League finally got under way and did so with something of a bang. There were some fantastic games in all three divisions with several surprising results but the really big news stories from the opening day of action involved county players Joe Mc Mahon and Brian Dooher. Omagh man Mc Mahon had his jaw broken in two places in an off the ball incident in their game against Moortown which St Endas won by six points. Mc Mahon was taken to Altnagelvin hospital for treatment but he looks certain to miss Tyrone’s  Championship clash against Monaghan on June 5th.

Further bad news for county manager Mickey Harte came when county team captain Brian Dooher was in the wars in his club’s match in Loughmacrory. Dooher who lines out at midfield for his club was controversially sent off following a tackle on John Gallagher. The referee did not see the incident but relied on the word of an umpire who was some sixty yards away. Those who were closest to the incident felt it was a very harsh decision that merited a yellow card at the most. Clan na Gael finished the game with thirteen players and lost by four points.
