Dungannon Naomh Treasa secured the All Ireland Junior B club title on Saturday afternoon at Abbotstown after they produced a second half of grit and hunger to take the crown on a score line of 2-3 to 0-4. Their opponents Ceann Creige were probably the better side in the first half but failed to make the most of their possession and when Naomh Treasa got on top after the break there was only going to be one winner.

The teams went off at the break tied at 0-1 apiece after a low scoring opening thirty minutes. It could have been even better for the Tyrone side who came closest to hitting the net when both Roisin Mc Erlean and Cara Little tested the keeper. Midfielder Nicole Nugent was causing problems for Naomh Treasa but as the first half ended the Glasgow girls were definitely struggling to keep to the pace of the game.

The first half ended at 0-1 piece with Nugent on target for Glasgow while Mc Erlean converted a forty five for the Tyrone side.

A well taken goal from the stick of Roisin Mc Erlean after the break galvanised the Dungannon girls and Naomh Treasa remained very much on top for the remainder of the game. Naomh Treasa’s greater fitness shone through the second half and their willingness to battle for the break ball made all the difference.

The half back line of Marian Barker, Catherine Casey and Aine Mc Nulty put the shutters down in the second period and repelled everything their opponents could throw at them. With Grainne Rafferty and Beth Jones also superb Naomh Treasa stretched their lead when they added a fortuitous second goal from Rafferty to put them 2-2 to 0-2 in front.

Cara Little struck for another point for the Dungannon girls before injury time points for Ceann Creige from Niamh Rice, Sarah O’Sullivan and Nicole Nugent left the final score 2-3 to 0-4 in favour of Naomh Treasa.
