Stewartstown Edge Top Quality Clash With Gortin.
Sunday 21.08.2011

The half time score in the Intermediate clash between Gortin and Stewartstown read 0-8 to 1-5 with Kevin Mossey the stand out player on view landing 0-5 for his side during an impressive opening thirty minutes. Paul Dillon netted for the Harps to put them three ahead but Gortin hit four points in a row to move one ahead approaching the break but a Ryan Devlin point left the teams level at the interval. Gareth Devlin was also in fine scoring form with 0-3 for Stewartstown.
Gortin came out in the second half with wind advantage and were expected to boss the game. However the Harps fresh from securing their league status for next year battled for every ball as both teams served up a superb game of football. Stewartstown’s ability to hit goals at key times was the vital difference between the sides. Paul Dillon hit his second goal of the game during a high quality second half and was joined by Anton and Owen Coyle who also hit the net. Once again most of Gortin’s threat came through the twin terrors of Kevin Mossey and Diarmuid Mc Nulty. Mossey converted a second half penalty to finish with 1-7 on the day while Mc Nulty scored 1-2 in the second half alone. However Stewartstown possessed the greater team threat and when Gortin were reduced to fourteen men late in the half that gave the Harps the shot in the arm their self belief needed and a fantastically entertaining game ended 4-9 to 2-14, a one point win for Stewartstown.
