All Systems Go For Big Joe
Tuesday 13.11.2012

While many of the rest of us are thinking of turning our attention to preparing for the club’s AGM or playoff finals Omagh St Endas utility man Joe Mc Mahon has travel on his mind. The Tyrone midfielder is preparing to head off on the All Star trip to New York on Wednesday morning and is looking forward to a few days of sight seeing around the recently storm affected city. Hurricane Sandy recently caused serious devastation along the North Eastern seaboard with the result that many New Yorkers are still without power and water.
“I’m really looking forward to it to be honest” said Joe as he prepared for the trip. “We are playing an exhibition match on Saturday in Gaelic Park between the 2011 and the 2012 All Stars. Pat Gilroy and Jim Mc Guinness are managing the sides so although the game will be competitive it is more of an exhibition match.” Mc Mahon’s Omagh side lost to Coalisland in the league semi final at the weekend but he had no arguments about the outcome of that one. ” We were well beaten by a better side on the day. Losing Conan Grugan early on was a blow but overall Coalisland were deserving winners.”
Looking ahead to the weekend and Errigal’s clash with Crosmaglen Joe reckons Errigal will give the All Ireland champions their fill of it. “Errigal have improved with every game and while they will respect Cross they won’t be in awe of them. It looks like it could be a real cracker of a game and” he added somewhat tongue in cheek “while I would love to be in Clones to watch it I will probably be shopping in Manhattan.” The life of the modern day county footballer, it really can be tough at the top.
