ALLIANZ CUMANN Na mBUNSCOL INDOOR HURLING/CAMOGIE
A heat of the annual Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 5-a-side ‘Indoor Hurling and Camogie’ for primary schools was held recently in Clonoe Community Centre. Three local schools entered teams in both codes for the blitz, which produced a tremendously high level of skill from all involved. Tyrone Hurling Coach, Declan Sherlock officiated at the event, ably assisted by Mickey Glover from the Ulster GAA Coaching Council. Newly-appointed Allianz Cumann na mBunscol PRO, Eddie Doris, co-ordinated the day’s events.
Gaelscol Uí Neill battled bravely in both competitions, but just fell short despite their valiant efforts. The successful teams on the day were Master O’ Neill’s St John’s P.S. Kingsisland, and Master McQuaid’s Primate Dixon P.S. Coalisland, with both teams qualifying for the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Tyrone Finals in Hurling and Camogie respectively. These two triumphant teams now await the best from the West Tyrone heats to be held in Omagh this week.
The eagerly awaited Finals’ Day will be held in Omagh at the end of January.
ALLIANZ CUMANN Na mBUNSCOL INDOOR HURLING/CAMOGIE HEATS IN OMAGH
Two heats of the annual Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 5-a-side ‘Indoor Hurling and Camogie’ for primary schools were held recently in Omagh’s Station Centre. A total of 12 local schools entered teams in both codes for the qualifying heats, which produced a tremendously high level of skill from all involved. Tyrone Hurling Coach, Declan Sherlock, officiated at the events, ably assisted by Mickey Glover from the Ulster GAA Coaching Council. Newly appointed Allianz Cumann na mBunscol PRO, Eddie Doris, co-ordinated events over the two days.
Day 1 of the heats, Tuesday 21st January, saw 6 schools compete for a coveted place in the Tyrone Hurling Final. Great credit must go the smaller schools, all of whom battled bravely in competition, but just fell short on the day despite their valiant efforts. The teams who eventually prevailed were St. Mary’s PS, Killyclogher and St. Conor’s PS, Omagh, with both teams qualifying for the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Tyrone Hurling Finals. These two triumphant teams now await the qualifying schools from the East Tyrone heats to be held in Dungannon this week.
Day 2, Wednesday 22nd January, witnessed another 6 schools compete. Once again, the standard of play was of an extremely high nature. This is testament to the great work being done by many people in our Primary Schools.
After another absorbing day’s play, St Columbkille’s PS Carrickmore and Barrack St. Strabane qualified for Hurling Finals’ Day.
Well done also to the Carrickmore girls for reaching the Camogie Finals, where they will be joined by the Greencastle girls from Our Lady of Lourdes PS.
The eagerly awaited Finals’ Day will be held in Omagh at the end of January. Our congratulations and best wishes go to all the children who participated in these games. Exciting times lie ahead for all these talented pupils!
