Dean Maguirc Carrickmore added the Danske Bank McAvoy Cup to the Rafferty Cup that they won earlier in the season when they had three points to spare over a battling St.Aidan’s Cootehill side at the Pearse Ogs ground in Armagh on Friday afternoon. There was nothing between the sides early in the second half until crucially Dean Maguirc hit a purple patch that yielded them 2-3 without reply to leave them well on their way to victory.

The opening score of the game was a goal from St.Aidan’s midfielder Mark Cassidy after four minutes but within sixty seconds the winners had levelled matters when Michael Rafferty smashed an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net. Darragh Lynch and Dean Carroll exchanged points with David Morris and Lorcan McGarrity to leave it all square at 1-3 apiece at the interval.

McGarrity and Senan Mullen exchanged early second half points before Dean Maguirc hit that great spell. Rafferty, Joe Warnock and Morris all hit points before Colum McCrory got a touch to divert a Kieran Mulholland shot to the net. That was in the 42nd minute and five minutes later they grabbed another goal with substitute Ryan Coyle the finisher after good approach play from Rafferty. St.Aidan’s piled on the pressure with a Carroll brace and one from Cillian Boyle while substitute James Shanley got an injury time goal but the Dean held out.
