Ardboe are the Tyrone under 16 champions following a one point win over their rivals Donaghmore taking the crown on a 1-13 to 2-9 score line.

The first half saw both defences on top with Ardboe working exceptionally hard to keep the Donaghmore forwards in check. Despite being very closely watched Donaghmore full forward Conor Cush managed to land the first two points of the game.

In a game of few chances they struggled to cope with the work rate and commitment of the Ardboe midfield. Michael Forbes hit a brace to draw the sides level before Jack Martin rounded off a fine team move to hit the first goal of the game with half time approaching.

Donaghmore responded well with two a point each from Cush and centre forward Cormac Mc Cartan to leave the score at the break Ardboe 1-2, Donaghmore 0-4.

A free after two minutes from the boot of Cush tied the game but Ardboe hit three in a row from Cormac Devlin, Jack Martin and Odhran Mc Murray to move three clear. Ronan Molloy reduced the deficit with a fine score but Forbes pointed to maintain the gap.

Donaghmore were then reduced to fourteen players following a straight red card for their centre forward and although Cain Mc Kenna pointed for the Village side Cormac Devlin pointed to stretch Ardboe’s lead again to three. With twelve minutes left Donaghmore were rewarded for their efforts when a superb finish from Conor Cush left the teams tied on 1-7 apiece.

Within a minute Ardboe were in front again with a fine score from Jack Martin but once more Donaghmore pushed forward and Cush drew the sides level with a lovely score from an awkward angle.

With less than five minutes remaining Ardboe enjoyed a real purple patch with four points unanswered courtesy of Daniel Quinn, Cormac Martin, Jack Martin and Michael Forbes.

The game appeared done and dusted but with time running out Donaghmore went for broke. Ronan Donnelly hit the net to leave one between them and straight from the restart they levelled the game with another score from Cush.

Just when it seemed that the game would end level Ardboe sub Shea Quinn pointed  and in spite of Donaghmore creating a couple of additional chances Ardboe held on to win by one.

They can now look forward to a Paul Mc Girr Tournament quarter final clash with Donegal champions Gaoth Dobhair next Saturday.
