Ardboe Minors Come Up Short

Ulster Minor club
Dromintee 2-15 1-11 Ardboe
Dromintee are through to the semi-final of this year’s Ulster Minor club competition, hosted by St Paul’s at the expense of Ardboe. The Loughshore side paid the price for a really poor opening quarter, as the Armagh side hit them for 2-5 without reply. Ronan Martin and Oisin Byrne claimed the goals with Diarmaid O’Rourke involved in both. O’Rourke also kicked a two pointer and a point as Dromintee dominated.
Darragh Devlin, Cahir McKeown and Darcy Mallon were all on target for Ardboe in the opening half but they trailed 2-8 0-5, at half-time.
With the breeze behind them they began the second half brightly. Seizing control in the middle through Davin McKeown and Jamie Concannon, Ardboe clawed themselves back into the contest with three Darragh Devlin points.
Dromintee still seemed to be in control until Ruairi O’Neill fired to the net after good work from Mallon, with twelve minutes remaining. Darragh Muldoon had a chance to draw the game but McBennett saved well, but the momentum was with Ardboe.
Ardboe continued to press but had several poor wides and when it mattered most Ronan Martin stepped forward to kick three late points.
Keane McArdle kicked his second of the game to confirm victory, and a seven points margin which doesn’t reflect the game. Ardboe left to rue a disastrous start.
