Ardboe gave Trillick a serious examination of their title credentials at Carrickmore on Sunday afternoon before the Reds emerged two point winners on a score line of 1-8 to 0-9.

There was little between the teams throughout with chances few and far between. The pace and intensity of the game was fierce with time and space at a premium.

Although both sets of defenders were on top throughout David Mulgrew and Shay Mc Guigan managed to put the loughshore team two clear after five minutes. Trillick however settled to the task with Rory Brennan, Ritchie Donnelly and Mattie Donnelly increasingly prominent. Points from Brennan and Ritchie Donnelly were followed by a superb Mattie Donnelly goal on sixteen minutes as Trillick went three points clear.

Ardboe may have been behind on the scoreboard but with Mickey O’Neill and Mc Guigan leading the line they reached the break only two points behind 1-4 to 0-5. Points from O’Neill, Aidan Duffy and Mulgrew helped keep their side in the game while Lee Brennan and James Garrity completed the scoring  for the Reds.

Both sides added four points apiece in the second half as the game remained low scoring but highly competitive with the gap between the teams never more than three points. As in the first half Mulgrew and Mc Guigan opened the scoring for Ardboe before a brace of points from Daire Gallagher and one from Liam Gray helped put Trillick three clear again.

Points from Cormac Devlin and Shea Quinn sandwiched a Liam Gray point as Trillick did just enough to make it through to the last four of the championship.

Final score: Trillick 1-8, Ardboe 0-9
