Five minutes in and it has been a good start from Augher. A high ball in with their first attack comes off the post and Sean Hackett finishes to the net. Strabane respond with a free from JP Gallagher to make the score Augher 1-0, Strabane 0-1 after five minutes. Strabane will surely miss the presence of the influential Danny Mc Bride who was injured on Wednesday night playing in The Ryan Cup for St Mary’s University.

Eleven minutes in and Augher still on top. Two points from Jamie Donnelly, one from a free and the other from play put them 1-2 to 0-1 ahead. There is a considerable breeze which if anything appears to be favouring Augher in the first half.

Eighteen minutes in and Strabane beginning to find their feet. Points from Aaron Mc Laughlin and Dylan Arnold (free) leaves it 1-2 to 0-3 for Augher in what has been a fairly decent game of football so far.

It is almost half time at Loughmacrory and it is still all to play for. Augher went 1-4 to 0-3 ahead following points from Sean Hackett and Liam Connolly but Strabane replied with scores from Paddy Roarty and Ruairi Mc Elroy to leave two between them. Just on the stroke of half time Jamie Donnelly converted a free kick for Augher to leave three between the sides at the break with Augher 1-5 to 0-5 in front.

Second half under way.

Both teams add a point to their first half totals. Paddy Roarty landed Strabane’s sixth point of the game but Sean Hackett replied with a minor to keep Augher three in front with five minutes of the second half gone.

Ten minutes of the second half gone and Augher are in control after a burst of scoring that yields 1-3. Jamie Donnelly hit two points before Sean Hackett capitalises on indecision in the Strabane defence to toe poke to the net. Jamie Donnelly follows that with another fine point to leave the score 2-9 to 0-6 in favour of Augher with forty two minutes played.

Halfway through the second half and a Declan Connolly point puts the leaders in a very strong position. Augher enter the last quarter 2-10 to 0-6 in front.

Seven minutes plus injury time left and it looks like today will see the end to Strabane’s season. They trail 2-12 to 0-6 after another brace of Augher points this time from Sean Hackett again and substitute Aidan Mc Elroy.

Into the final three minutes and two frees from John Mc Laughlin give Strabane’s total a look of respectability but there is no stopping Augher as they march on to a clash with the winners of tomorrow’s big Division One relegation playoff featuring Edendork and Kildress.

The last score of the afternoon comes from the boot of JP Gallagher from forty five metres but Augher are deserving 2-12 to 0-9 winners. On current form they will go into the final playoff game in confident manner.
