Tyrone 1-15 Cavan 0-9

For the second week in a row Tyrone turned on the power in the second half to record a convincing win in division one of the Allianz National league. Seven days after seining off the challenge of Monaghan they put Cavan to the sword at Healy Park on Saturday evening and it was a similar performance in that they pulled away from their opponents in the third quarter.

Jack Brady had opened the scoring for the visitors from a free but that was as good as it got for Cavan. Connor McAliskey, making his first start of 2019, levelled from a free before Niall Sludden fired over a brilliant point from play to give his side a lead that they were never to lose. Peter Harte and Cathal McShane tagged on points with Martin Reilly responding for Cavan. Tyrone then almost got in for a goal when Kieran McGeary got on the end of a Ben McDonnell pass but his palmed effort went over the bar. Sludden then hit a brilliant point with the outside of his boot before Cavan had the final say of the opening period with a quality point from Dara McVeety to close the gap to 0-8 to 0-4 at the short whistle.

The second half was only a couple old minutes old when Cavan had midfielder Killian Clarke sent off for a second yellow card offence and Tyrone took over. Great work from Darren McCurry saw him release Harte who for the second game in a row finished in style to the back of the net. In the next attack Kyle Coney hit an outstanding point from play and there was no way back for Cavan.

Cavan substitute Cian Mackey did hit three points, two from frees, but it was only a damage limitation exercise. Hugh Pat McGeary got forward twice to fist a point and then kick a beauty while Harte landed another free. Team Captain Mattie Donnelly then had the final say from a free after he had been fouled himself as Tyrone made it five points from their last three outings after losing their opening two games.
