Tyrone made it back to back Under 20 All Ireland titles with a 5-16 to 0-17 win over Louth at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh on Wednesday night.  It took Paul Devlin’s side a while to settle and for long periods in the first half Louth were well and truly in it. Big midfielders James Maguire and Sean Callaghan caused all sorts of problems for the Red Hands but two goals from Noah Grimes helped Tyrone reach the break leading 2-7 to 0-8.

Grimes and team captain Joey Clarke, who was outstanding throughout, fired over early points but Louth responded with scores from Callaghan, Maguire and Conor Mac Criosta to lead 0-3 to 0-2. Goalkeeper Conan Mc Garvey pulled off a brilliant stop to prevent Louth moving further ahead.

Tyrone responded with a long ball out of defence that found Noah Grimes in space and the Donaghmore Maestro waltzed through the Louth defence before finishing to the net.

Darragh Dorian and James Maguire benefitted from Louth’s ability to win ball around the middle and levelled the game with twenty minutes on the clock. Eoin Mc Elholm was coming more and more into the game and himself and Grimes clipped over a point apiece to put Tyrone 1-4 to 0-5 in front as we headed into the final five minutes of the first half.

Louth continued to win plenty of primary possession around the middle but Joey Clarke and Callum Daly were proving to be difficult obstacles to get around. A well struck effort from wide on the left from wing back Tadgh Mc Donnell made it a one point game before a two pointer from big midfielder Callaghan put Louth 0-8 to 1-4 ahead . However the lead did not last long as Grimes showed great composure to level the game with his third point of the half. Tyrone finished strongly with a point apiece from Ruairi Mc Cullagh and Conor O’Neill before Noah Grimes took a pass from Eoin Mc Elholm and hit his second goal of the game.

Half Time Score: Tyrone 2-7, Louth 0-8.

Tyrone began the second half on top with scores from Mc Elholm and Grimes. Louth hit something of a purple patch then with four unanswered points . Indeed they could have been even closer but after finding space inside the Tyrone defence the ball rebounded off the crossbar and Tyrone punished them further running the ball the length of the field before hitting another point.

Tyrone had a really lucky escape when Joey Clarke managed to get himself in just the right position to deny Louth a great chance of a goal.

Tyrone then took over with points from Grimes and Mc Elholm and a goal from the Loughmacrory ace. Caolan Donnelly extended the lead to seven before Mc Elholm hit his second goal of the night.

Louth got themselves back in the contest with a run of three unanswered scores with Maguire showing he was not prepared to throw in the towel just yet. Noah Grimes then scored from an impossible angle and even though Louth responded with a point from full forward Tony Mc Donnell Tyrone finished with 1-3 including a superb goal from Shea Mc Dermott to seal the win on a score line of 5-16 to 0-7.
