Moortown retained the grade one minor championship title when they proved too strong for a gallant Dungannon side in the decider at Father Campbell Park in Coalisland on Sunday evening, 2-11 to 1-10 the final score.

The Clarkes were out of the traps quickly with full forward Conor McKee landing the opening three points of the game.  Gradually Moortown began to come into the game and points from Conan McLernon, James Devlin and Ronan Conlon saw them get their noses in front.  Patrick Molloy and Lorcan Mallon traded points with Devlin and McLernon as the holders greeted the short whistle 0-8 to 0-6 in front.

It took six minutes for the opening score of the second half to arrive but it proved to be a significant one as McLernon burst through to find the net. The same player then added a point but back came the Clarkes when a speculative effort from Pearse Loughran sailed all the way to the net in the 13th minute.

Ronan Conlon and Molloy had points for their respective sides before Shane McKeown converted a Moortown penalty with nine minutes left to play. Seconds later Dungannon were really up against it when they were reduced to fourteen men. To their credit though they lifted their game with points from Mallon, McKee and Naoise Martin leaving just a single score between the sides with two minutes left. Moortown though weren’t to be denied with the superb Devlin hitting the insurance point on a night when Dungannon finished with thirteen men.
