Derrylaughan Kevin Barry’s eased past Castlederg this evening in Garvaghey to book their place in the last eight of the Paddy Cullen Cup competition. The Division 2 league champions had a sluggish start to the game and found themselves 0-3 to 0-2 down after 13 minutes thanks to a brace of frees from Paddy Lynch and a point from play for Conor McCallion for the Derg.

That 13th minute point marked the last score from Castlederg for some 42 minutes during which time the Barry’s hit eleven points in a row. Before the break Ciaran Quinn, Patrick Quinn, Seamus McCann, Liam Gervin and Ciaran Gervin had all registered scores to leave the score Derrylaughan 0-6 Castlederg 0-3.

Within four minutes of the restart Derrylaughan had extended the lead to seven points as Tomas Carney and Ciaran Gervin hit points. The gap widened to ten with further points from McCann and Fergal McAliskey before the Derg finally register their one and only point of the second half from Paddy Lynch. It was left for McAliskey to fire over the final score of the game four minutes from the end. The only real drama in the second half came in the dying moments of game when Brian Kennedy received a straight red card following an incident off the ball. Final Score – Derrylaughan 0-14 Castlederg 0-4.
