Neighbours and rivals Beragh and Eskra produced a superb game of championship football at Healy Park on Friday night before the Red Knights emerged winners on a 1-15 to 0-16 score line.

Eskra looked hugely impressive in the opening quarter with Johnny Hackett, Conor Mc Girr, Niall Mc Ginn, Eoin Mc Caffrey and Cathal Megan all in fine form. Beragh showed considerable resolve to deal with the initial Eskra onslaught and grew in confidence after Martin Rodgers converted a thirteenth minute penalty to level the game.

Points from Eoin Mc Caffrey, Ryan Gartland, Conor O’Hagan and Cathal Meegan helped Eskra reach the break two in front after a highly entertaining opening half.

The second half continued in the same vein with both teams producing some high quality football. A point from Ben Mc Sorley reduced the Beragh deficit to a single point on forty minutes before scores from Rodgers and Tiarnan Mc Crystal put Enda Kilpatrick’s side one up.

Joe Mc Carroll tied the game with twelve minutes remaining but the Beragh bench proved decisive as Chrissy Devlin and Johnny Woods turned the game in their favour.

Two points behind with seven minutes left Eskra showed their mettle as a trio of Joe Mc Carroll points turned the game once more in their favour.

With their substitutes making a considerable difference
Beragh finished strongly and Martin Rodgers lofted a superb free to level the game before he set his side on the road to victory with another brilliant finish.

Eskra left gaps at the back as they pushed for an equaliser but Rodgers exploited the extra space to send Niall Owens through for the final point of the game.

Final score: Beragh 1:15, Eskra 0-16.
