Beragh Red Knights Lift Minor League Title

Beragh Red Knights claimed the Grade Two MinorLeague title when they saw off the threat of a talented Clonoe side in front of a huge crowd in Augher on Tuesday night.

Right from the off Beragh showed their intent and within two minutes had their first goal of the game courtesy of man of the match Oisin Kelly. The Red Knights played with pace and purpose all across the pitch and Clonoe struggled to contain them. Tiarnan Kelly and Aidan Farley added points before Farley got on the end of another blistering Beragh move to make it 2-2 to no score after thirteen minutes.

Conor Taggart fired over Clone’s first score of the game on seventeen minutes but Beragh continued to control the pace and direction of the contest. Eoghan Loughran and Eoin Ferguson swapped scores after nineteen minutes but there was little Clonoe could do to contain this very well drilled Beragh side.

Further points from Aidan Farley, Darragh Mc Clean and Eoghan Donnelly stretched the Beragh lead as the half time approached but the Red Knights continued to push for scores. Eoghan Donnelly finished another fine Beragh  move to the net right on the stroke of half time to leave the score at the break 3-6 to 0-2 in favour of Beragh.

Clonoe needed to be quick out of the blocks in the second half but, even though they opened the scoring after the break with a two pointer from Eoghan Colton, Beragh replied with a brace of points from full forward Eoghan Mullan.

Beragh worked hard to all over the field to control possession and keep the Rahilllys at arm’s length. However Clonoe did create a number of excellent goal chances but a superbly marshalled Beragh defence remained resolute as they maintained a clean sheet. Centre back and team captain Cathal Farley led by example with some top class defending.

Beragh looked like they could create chances at will and although the pace of the game slackened the result was never in doubt. Clonoe had points from Feidhlim O’Hagan, Rhys Coney and Ciaran Drumm and battled to keep the contest honest. However despite the best efforts of their opponents Beragh finished up deserving winners on a final score of 3-15 to 0-8.
