There will be a big North Tyrone influence in the MacLarnon Cup final on Monday 18th March at the Athletic Grounds Armagh with Cathair Dhoire taking on St Patrick’s Downpatrick otherwise known as “Red High” in the curtain raiser to the Omagh CBS clash with St Michael’s Enniskillen in the MacRory Cup decider.

Local players Oran McGrath (Strabane) and Shea Browne (Clann na nGael) both members of the Tyrone Under 17 squad and also Peter O’Flaherty (Owen Roe O’Neill’s) are all important players for the Derry City amalgamation which consists of pupils from Lumen Christi, St Columb’s, St Joe’s and Oakgrove Integrated College.

Ben McCarron (Steelstown Brian Óg’s) a member of the Derry Senior panel is also an important asset to the Cathair Dhoire side. On their way to the final they have defeated Our Lady’s Castleblaney, Our Lady’s & St Patrick’s Knock and Inis Eoghain and are bidding for their first ever MacLarnon Cup title.

The introduction of the amalgamated schools has caused some issues and disagreements but it has to said that it’s great for the G.A.A. in Derry City to be competing at this level within Ulster and not forgetting the major input of the three lads from North Tyrone. Good luck to Oran McGrath, Shea Browne and Pater O’Flaherty in their bid for the MacLarnon Cup title on Monday.
