Big Weekend Ahead For Camogie In Tyrone
Tuesday 21.08.2012
The Tyrone senior camogie championship finals will be held on Sunday 26th August in Edendork. Father Shields of Greencastle and Eire Óg of Carrickmore will contest the junior final at 5:15. This contest is expected to be a very close encounter as an earlier game in the season turned out to be evenly matched. Last year’s finalists Eire Óg are hoping to go one better this time around but they will know both teams fancy their chances. Father Shields captain Leanne O’Neill met the Eire Óg captain Margaret Kerr and players on Tuesday past for a photo opportunity and the spirit amongst the players was positive as they looked forward to Sunday’s final.
In the intermediate section Doiretreasc and Derrylaughan will face each other in a repeat of last year’s final. Derrylaughan’s captain of last year, Shona Hagan, will be absent but Emma McAliskey will hope to emulate last year’s success. Doiretreasc joint captains Emma Fitzgerald and Aisling Corr will be out to avenge last year’s defeat and put themselves into an Ulster competition. There is a large number of county players participating on finals day and the skill level will be of the highest order.
A lot of thought has gone into preparing the programme for the day it and it will be a great memento of the occasion. Tyrone camogie would like to wish all the players in the finals the very best of luck and the winners will surely do Tyrone proud in the following Ulster Fixtures.
The Tyrone under 14’s will travel to Donegal on Saturday 1st September to the Four Masters Club in Donegal town. It is the first round of the championship and the young camogs will be buoyed by their success in the Ulster Blitz a few weeks ago when they lifted the title. Training is continuing on Saturdays in Edendork and a final panel of 26 players will be chosen next week. The team will also attend the All Ireland Blitz on 15th September in Dublin. It will be a very busy few weeks for the young team and we hope they can have continued glory in the coming month.
The Go Games Blitz held in Doiretreasc was a huge success on Saturday past. There was over 110 young camogs in attendance and the support from the parents was tremendous. The event was a roaring success and the refreshments at the end of the day were most welcome from both the players and supporters. It was clear that a lot of hard work had gone into organising everything and a huge word of thanks is due to all involved at the club. The home made buns were a highlight for the parents as well. Derrylaughan and Edendork will hold the next two Blitzes in the coming month and they will surely be a big hit.
