Tyrone Senior Hurlers bounced back from the disappointment of their last outing with a hard fought but character building win over neighbours and pre match favourites Armagh at Healy Park on Sunday.

The Orchard County went into this one knowing they were in pole position to qualify for the league finals but came up  against a Tyrone team in determined mood. With Damian Casey in superb form and Bryan Mc Gurk, Tiernan Morgan and Ryan Mc Kernan all showing well the Red Hands reached the break leading 1-8 to 0-10 after a very impressive opening half.

The second half was even more competitive as Tyrone continued to play with great intensity and discipline. Armagh struggled to cope at times with the home team’s approach and paid the price with two second half sendings off.

Casey, who finished with 1-11, continued to lead the line while Tyrone’s second goal from Matthew Mulgrew was a thing of beauty. That score put Tyrone 2-13 to 0-11 in front with twenty minutes remaining. Of course by that stage they had registered fifteen wides and were totally dominating the game.

An Armagh goal on fifty three minutes reignited their challenge and two quick points saw the gap down to a single score. However a second sending off took the wind from their sails before Casey again landed a wonder point. A goal from Bryan Mc Gurk in injury time sealed the win and Tyrone deservedly took the points on a final score of Tyrone 3-16 Armagh 1-16.

Tyrone scorers: Damian Casey 1-11, Bryan Mc Gurk 1-2, Matthew Mulgrew 1-0, Tiernan Morgan, Ryan Mc Kernan and Sean Donaghy 0-1 each.
