Team Talk Mag

This upcoming weekend 13-15th December sees Breacach Handball Club host the Breacach Open, an Elite Ranking Tournament. This is the first time any club has hosted a tournament like this in the history of Tyrone Handball.

The Breacach Club was recently given the honour of GAA All Star Venue of the Year at Croke Park and is delighted to have the top male and female players in Ireland and the World coming to compete in this elite tournament.

Breacach’s state of the art facilities will be abuzz with the finest handball players in the country coming to compete for the maiden title of Breacach Open Champion in both male and female categories.

The Ladies Open promises to be a fantastic display of handball with our own Eilise McCrory, multiple All Ireland and World Champion making her return. Also in the running we have three time Collegiate Champion Fiona Tully(Roscommon), Armagh 19&U National Champion and World Runner Up Megan McCann, Intermediate All Ireland Champion Mollie Dagg (Leixlip) and two time Ladies Open World Champion Aisling Reilly from Antrim all hoping to close the gap on the joint top ranked players.

Martina McMahon from Limerick, current World Champion and recently crowned Golden Gloves Champion will hope to pass her Cork rival Catriona Casey. Catriona last week was awarded Ladies Handballer of the Year at the All Star Awards in Croke Park and the winner of over 20 Pro Stop Competitions. Both Ladies are sitting at equal top ranking and have met in the majority of finals the past season and show great athleticism, skill and determination. If either of these two claim the honours of Breacach Open Ladies Champion it will push them forward into first place in the ranking.

The Men’s Open entrants include All Ireland Champions Diarmaid Nash, Coin Crehan and Fergal Coughlin all from County Clare, Eoghan McGinnity(Monaghan) and Gavin Buggy from Wexford. Armagh’s Charlie Shanks the current Ulster Senior Singles Champion and Peter and Patrick Funchion from Kilkenny will also vie for the Breacach Open title. Team Ireland captain Martin Mulkerrins recently back from his victory in the Tucson Pro Stop will be hoping to take the title back to Galway.

Challenging all these big names will be Breacach’s Shane ONeill, Barry Devlin, Pól Clarke and Aaron Owens. Sean Kerr will also have returned from his narrow defeat in the quarter finals of the Milwaukee Pro Stop against Sean Lenning. Sean is the youngest player to be in the top 30 of the Pro Stop and continues to improve and make his mark in senior Handball worldwide. Sean will be hoping to keep the maiden Breacach Open Trophy on home territory.

The 11&Under Semi Finals and Finals will also be played this weekend alongside the Open Players.

The schedule will be as follows…..
Open games start at 7pm in Breacach on Friday the 13th December.
Saturday morning will see the games being played down to the Semi Finals in both male and female categories.
Finals action kicks off on Sunday morning at 10am with both Open and 11&U semi finals.
The 11&U final will then be played first followed by the Ladies Open Final and lastly the Men’s Open.

All the finals will be live streamed.

Please come along to what promises to be a fantastic tournament, and show your support for Breacach  and all of the competitors. Breacach would also like to thank everyone who has sponsored the tournament in any way and look forward to seeing you at the weekend. We wish a safe journey to all travelling to the Breacach Open this weekend.
