Mayo 1-17 Tyrone 2-22

Tyrone travelled to Castlebar on Saturday afternoon to take on Mayo in the latest game in the Christy Ring Cup and they followed up a good draw with Derry by securing an eye catching eight point victory over Mayo.

It was a superb display from Michael McShane’s charges as they emerged deserving winners and it means that they have now scored 4-42 in their last two outings. The home side had the opening three points but the Red Hands then settled with a brace from centre half back Dermot Begley as well as scores from Aidan Kelly and Conor Grogan. Mayo responded through Cormac Phillips and Jason Coyne but in the 29th minute Sean Duffin got on the end of a long free from keeper Liam Dunphy to flick to the net. Begley then hit another brace to take his first half tally to 0-6 as Tyrone led 1-10 to 0-11 at the break.

Duffin landed the opening three points of the second half before Grogan added one as well. Phillips scored for Mayo but then Lorcan Devlin got Tyrone’s second major. Adrian Phillips, Michael Farrell and Coyne had Mayo scores but it was Tyrone’s day as Sean Og Grogan, Conor Grogan, Kelly, Begley, Devlin and Rory Weir all tagged on points as they ran out impressive winners.
