Brocagh’s Experience Proves Too Strong in Junior Final

There were joyous scenes in Derrytresk on Sunday afternoon as Brocagh camogie side lifted the Tyrone Junior Championship for the first time in four years, overcoming a brave Omagh team in the Siobhán ‘Tipp’ O’Neill final.

Omagh, still only in their second season at senior level, made the brighter opening when Emer Cunningham pointed for St Enda’s. But it wasn’t long before Brocagh settled. Joint captain Una McCann, later named Player of the Match, quickly levelled and then raised the first green flag of the afternoon from a free. Her leadership on and off the ball gave Brocagh a strong foothold that they would never surrender.

By half time, the Brocagh women had shown all their experience and spread their scoring threat impressively, with Grainne McDonald, Lauren Fitzgerald and Siobhan Donnelly among those on target. Only the sharp work of Omagh goalkeeper Aine Mac Rory prevented further damage, but the scoreboard still read 2-7 to 0-2 at the break.

Omagh fought hard after the restart and were rewarded when Clare O’Brien netted a consolation goal. The Cunningham sisters kept pushing forward, showing the promise and determination that marks this young side’s progress. But the Brocagh attack proved relentless. Roisin O’Neill McKee, Sally McCann and Grainne McDonald all found the net, ensuring a convincing finish.

The final whistle brought the score to Brocagh 7-15, Omagh 1-4, sealing a comprehensive win. Brocagh now look ahead with confidence to the Ulster Bridie McMenamin Cup, while Omagh can take heart in the strides they have made and the experience gained from reaching this stage.
