Omagh CBS 2-8 St.Patrick’s Cavan 0-13

Omagh secured the Danske Bank Brock Cup at Emyvale on Friday afternoon when they had the minimum to spare over a fancied St.Patrick’s Cavan side in the decider. It was a keenly contested clash from start to finish with the result giving Omagh their third Ulster title of the season after winning both the Corn na nOg and MacCormack Cups.

It was Cavan who made the brighter start as they kicked the opening three points with outstanding centre half forward Emmanuel Shehu getting two of those. Sean O’Donnell then got Omagh up and running from a free before midfielder Patrick McCann tagged on a point from play. Conor Casey and Shehu both registered for Cavan before Omagh had the final say of the opening period through O’Donnell to leave it 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.

Cavan were out of the blocks quickly in the second half as well with Shehu scoring with both his left and right and midfielder Ethan Coyle also on target as they moved five clear after six minutes. Omagh looked to be in trouble but that’s when inspirational Captain Conor McGillion finished in style low to the bottom left hand corner of the net.

The same player added a point before Ben Monaghan and O’Donnell traded scores. With a quarter of an hour left to go Omagh CBS grabbed their second goal of the game when a high ball in from midfielder Dara Hayes bounced and went over the head of advancing keeper Cian Donohoe.

Darragh Lovett twice exchanged points with O’Donnell with McGillion ensuring Omagh stayed ahead. Shehu had the final say of the game with his seventh point but Omagh held out to take the silverware, Cavan ending with fourteen men after keeper Donohoe was sent off in injury time.
