FOUR TEAMS, TWO GAMES – ONE CAUSE….

Charity GAA Day in memory of Catherine Quinn (wife of former Bellaghy & Derry star Danny Quinn)

Catherine Quinn (nee Murray – Ballinascreen) tragically passed away on May 13th 2011, after going through a Double Lung Transplant in May 2010. Catherine was the loving wife of former Bellaghy and Derry Star Danny Quinn and mother to Amy, Conor & Dara..

In her memory, and to fundraise for the hospitals that have done so much fantastic work to treat Catherine during her illness – a special GAA day has been organised.

“Cairde Catherine” will take place at Pairc Sean de Brun Bellaghy on August 13th. The teams taking part will be all teams that are close to Danny and Catherine..

FOUR TEAMS, TWO GAMES – ONE CAUSE….

At 4pm, a Wolfe Tones Bellaghy select will play a St Colm’s Ballinascreen select, based on the panels that contested the 1994 Derry County Final.Danny and Catherine’s brother Conor, were involved in their respective panels.

At 5pm, the panel from 1989 that won the Sigerson Cup with St Mary’s Belfast will contest a match with a Derry select, including members of the 1993 All Ireland winning panel. Danny was a successful member of both panels. The St Mary’s Sigerson panel is littered with some famous GAA personalities, including Armagh’s Jarlath Burns, Benny Tierney & John Rafferty, Down’s Cathal Murray, Derry’s Seamus Downey, Tyrone’s Pascal & Peter Canavan, Fermanagh’s Malachy O’Rourke, all will be playing on the day.

There will be special guest players on all 4 teams participating, household names from throughout Ireland who will be known to all GAA people. More details to follow as details of participating players are confirmed.

The games will be refereed by Bellaghy’s former inter county referee, Mickey Convery and guest referee Pat McEnaney from County Monaghan.
There will be entertainment afterwards in the Bellaghy clubrooms – , again, more details to follow…

This promises to be a special day – all donations, including admission on the day, are voluntary – all to a fantastic cause…
