Éire Óg and Brocagh played out the final of the junior camogie championship in Edendork on Saturday afternoon under difficult weather conditions with Brocagh enjoying the advantage of the elements in the first half.

With Faustina Canavan in fine form for Brocagh they opened the scoring five minutes in and by the midway point were three clear. Maria Grogan in the Eire Og defence worked overtime to deny the Brocagh forwards time and space but was powerles to prevent Brocagh getting their first goal of the game. Canavan continued to drive her side forward as Brocagh made good use of the wind and added a second goal and a couple of further points before the break. Indeed Brocagh’s eleven point lead could have been even greater had they not been wide with a twenty fifth minute penalty.

Éire Óg took to the field for the second half knowing they had something of a hill to climb. The introduction of Ailise Gormley for Éire Óg began to have an impact on the game and it wasn’t long before they were chasing down the total.
A goal shortly after the restart boosted their hopes and although Brocagh responded with a point Éire Óg bagged a second goal and it was game on.
Another goal from Éire Óg gave them real belief but Brocagh continued to defend well adding another point from a free to settle their nerves. Éire Óg were now playing with total commitment and great self confidence. They added a goal and two points to their tally within the next five minutes to put them in front for the first time in the match with only five minutes left on the clock.
With a county title at stake the play became somewhat frenetic from both sides before Brocagh’s attack added a point to level the game once again.
As the final whistle approached a well struck free from a tight angle from Lionnir Ní Dhonnghaile sealed the game for Éire Óg by a single point.
Final Score: Éire Óg 4-4(16) Brocagh 2-9(15).
