Friday night under the lights at MUSA saw two very competitive and very entertaining Camogie finals before Eglish and Edendork claimed the honours.

Eglish faced a very determined Derrylaughan side in the Minor final and both sides produced some superb play before Eglish pulled away in the closing ten minutes to win 3-12 to 3-2. Immediately after that Edendork and Brocagh took to the field and served up a very close, hard fought encounter which Edendork edged it 2-7 to 1-6.

Played in front of a large crowd Eglish were expected to win the Minor final comfortably but they hadn’t reckoned on the determination and organisation of the Derrylaughan side. Led by Emma Donnelly, Orla Cushnahan, Cassie Fitzgerald, Rachel O’Neill and Sian Fitzgerald the underdogs really put it up to the pre match favourites and goals from Sian Fitzgerald, Emma Donnelly and Chloe Mc Erlean kept their team in the game and tied the contest midway through the second half.

Eglish however had more strength in depth and that little bit of extra quality when it mattered most. Defensively Assanto Embalo and Catherine Muldoon stood tall when it was needed most. Reagan Faye, Eve Hughes and Francine Farley were a constant threat and Farley, with a keen eye for goal, finished top scorer for her team with 2-1. Her second goal moved her team seven clear with ten minutes remaining and a tiring Derrylaughan were punished further as Eglish added three more scores to their tally to win by ten.

Edendork and Brocagh were separated by four points at the end but this one could have gone either way as Brocagh pushed the winners right to the end and came close several times to snatching the goal they needed to really ask questions of the Edendork defence. However Annabelle Mc Aleer, Carmel Dorman and Katie Mc Lernon were superb for the winners while Orla Fanthorpe and Cliona Nelis helped their defence out when required and ensured a steady supply of ball into their forward line.

Player of the match Sinead Mc Geary, free taker Rona Mallon, captain Aoife Molloy and Maeve Maxwell were a constant threat but they also worked hard to keep the Brocagh defence under pressure when playing the ball down field.

Brocagh led early on with points from Róisín O’Neill and Faustina Canavan but a pair of Rona Mallon frees and a goal from the very busy Maeve Maxwell had Edendork ahead. The remainder of the first half was nip and tuck but a goal just before the break from Cliona Arthur saw Edendork reach the break 2-4 to 0-3 ahead. Indeed they could have been further clear but for some excellent saves from goalkeeper Una Mc Cann.

The second half was close and competitive but Brocagh could not get the key scores they needed and in spite of prolonged periods of pressure, Edendork held on to win 2-7 to 1-6.
